Bowling:
With over 100 participants, it was not easy to pick out the top bowler in all events, Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. There were some great scores and even greater camaraderie. It appears that the bowlers from New Castle took top honors over those from Lower Delaware this year. Special recognition goes to Richard Wenzke who won the Gold in Singles; Gold again in Doubles along with his partner Burmon Burgess; and Gold once again in Mixed Doubles with his partner Marilyn Samluk.Basketball:
Over 40 men’s and women’s teams competed in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament at PAL in Hockessin Since Delaware is now an open state for Senior Olympics, teams came from as far away as Connecticut. Results will be posted at http://www.delawareseniorolympics.org
Senior Group Challenge Update:
The Delaware Senior Olympics invited Senior Groups to form teams representing their facilities and/or fitness centers, and compete for points in the “2007 Senior Group Challenge”. The team with most fitness points will be awarded a special prize and a certificate of accomplishment. Most importantly, all the teams will enjoy a healthier mind and body, as they will be “Off Their Rockers”. The following senior centers are participating in this year’s “Challenge”: Fraimes Senior Center and Mid-County Senior Center, both Wilmington; Cheer Senior Center, Longneck; and the Newark Senior Center. The PUMH properties participating are: The Country House, Greenville; Cokesbury Village, Hockessin; The Manor House, Seaford; and Herron Point, Chestertown, Maryland. The activities and sports in which the teams will compete include: archery, badminton, baseball, basketball, biking, billiards, bocce, bowling, gardening, golf, horseshoes, line dancing, race walking, racquetball, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, volleyball, water polo, water volleyball, and weightlifting. The centerpiece of our “Challenge” is the nationally recognized “Walk Delaware”. Participants in this activity are encouraged to walk 131 miles during a 12-month period (less than 4/10 of a mile per day). This distance is the sum of the length and width of the state of Delaware. Points are awarded on a per-mile basis, so shorter distances still count. If you haven’t joined a “Fitness Group” and would like more information, call us today. We would love to enroll you in the “2008 Senior Group Challenge”, which begins on November 15, 2007. Call Peggy Olivero at (302) 388-2705 or e-mail to p.olivero@comcast.net.
