A combined Delaware 65+ team of softball players from the Blue Chicks and the Delaware Diamonds hosted the Pennsylvania Fillies 65s at Dover Park in Dover on August 18 in a softball double-header.
A barbeque picnic was held in between the games for everyone there. The Delaware team won both games over the Fillies, who recently won the bronze medal at the NSGA games in Louisville, KY. Players from downstate on the Delaware team were Doris Brown, Marion Lisehora, Harriet Mair, Sue Mitchell, Bonnie Strang, Barbara Sweeney and Sue West.

Baseball:
The Delaware Senior Olympics Baseball Team won its single elimination event at Banning Park in Newport on September 8 against an All Star team from the Tri-State 55+ Senior Baseball League 11-6.
Men’s Volleyball:
There were 8 teams competing, with 3 teams in a 70+ 'senior' pool and 5 teams in a 50+ to 65+ 'junior' pool. In the senior pool Phil Klabunde's PDMNY 70s team swept the division winning all 10 games for the gold medal. Paul Hershey's PA Keystone Seniors team split winning 5 and losing 5 to take silver, while Bob Shellenbarger's Delaware Gold received the Bronze. In the junior pool John Hintz's Delaware Spikers swept all other teams to take 1st place overall and gold in the 50+ bracket. Second overall, with 8 wins and 4 losses, and gold in the 65+ bracket was Denny Moore's MAC Magic. Tom Swenk's Spike Force 60s took gold in the 60+ bracket with a record of 6 and 6, while Richard Markland's Delaware Diamonds took 4th overall and gold in the 55+ bracket with a 4 and 8 record. DSO 50+, captained by Wayne Duncan, received the silver in the 50+ age group.
Women’s Volleyball:
There were 11 teams competing in three different age groups.

Sussex County teams from the Senior Lo-Del Volleyball League entered 6 teams, and came home with two gold medals (First Staters and Quick Chicks), one silver medal (Rough Edges), two bronze medals (Small Wonders and Dune Diggers) and one fourth place (Ladybugs).

Women’s Softball:
There were 5 senior women’s teams in the tournament.

Both teams from upstate won gold, while the 3 Sussex County teams took two silvers and a bronze. 50+: Blue Chicks 50s, gold; Delaware Diamonds 50s, silver; Alley Cats, bronze. 60+: Blue Chicks 60s, gold; Delaware Diamonds 60s, silver.
Bowling: For the first time, Delaware Senior Olympics Bowling, which runs from Sept. 25 through Oct. 11, will be certified by the United States Bowling Congress. All bowlers are eligible to compete in the DSO Bowling, however, only those that are sanctioned USBC bowlers will be eligible for USBC awards for honor scores. As in the past, all bowlers will be eligible to win the Delaware Senior Olympic Medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze).
