The Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth held play-offs for its two spring volleyball leagues in late May. The co-ed division was won by the Rehoboth Rookies, while the women’s division was won for the third consecutive time by Net Access. Although both leagues are open to adults of any age, many of the players in both divisions are seniors. Carol Thompson of Rehoboth played on both of the championship teams! The YMCA will offer volleyball leagues again in the fall. Check it out! Contact James Botti at 302-296-9622.

Susan Brooker, a Lewes senior, has been asked to be part of a filming project to take place in July. Digitas Health of Philadelphia is working on a project about Crestor. They will be filming Susan's "Active Life" to be used for an online web story. Ms. Brooker was asked to be in the documentary after extensive conversations she had with producers as well a scout visit. Digitas Health will be filming Susan at home and work, playing softball with the Delaware Diamonds Women's 50 Softball team and on the beach metal detecting and playing with her Lab, Ty Chi, and Yorkie, Maddy. Susan, also a chaplain, conducts Commitment Ceremonies on the Beach and is president of her own employment service, SGB Consultants. Susan is treasurer and catcher for the Delaware Diamonds over 50 softball team. The Diamonds 50s is one of four senior women’s teams playing on Mondays at 6 p.m. at Sports at The Beach in Georgetown. Last year the Diamonds 50s came in second in the Delaware Senior Olympics State Tournament. The team is actively raising money to go to the Senior Olympics in San Francisco in 2009. To qualify to go, they must place first or second in the Delaware Senior Olympics again this fall.
On June 9, with the temperature hovering just under 100 degrees, the Senior Women’s Softball League practice was optional, but many of the seniors didn’t let the heat keep them off the fields at Sports At The Beach in Georgetown! Players from the Delaware Diamonds 50s, Alley Cats 50s, Diamonds 60s and Blue Chicks 65s got in some batting practice.
