Walking is part of the Senior Group Challenge as well as Walk Delaware. Both are sponsored by Delaware Senior Olympics. Visit http://www.delawareseniorolympics.org Walking is a great way to exercise. It requires no special equipment, no special location, can be done at whatever pace the individual is comfortable with, and it is FREE. During the period of November, 2008 through October, 2009, the participants of Senior Group Challenge and Walk Delaware walked over 25,000 miles! That is more than the distance around the world. A big round of applause for all these walkers for a job well done!!
Jean Lane was recently inducted into the Delaware Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame. Jean now plays slow pitch softball with the Delaware Blue Chicks Senior Olympic team, while she also continues to play in the New Castle County Women’s Recreational League. In 1960 she played on a state championship fast pitch team. Later she played on a team that took her to California and the National Championships, played for the National Guard, coached the team at St. Elizabeth’s and was DASA Commissioner. In 2001 Jean was selected Delaware Amateur Softball Association Sportswoman of the Year. Congratulations, Jean, for all you have done for women’s softball in Delaware.
The Polar Bear Plunge in Rehoboth, originally scheduled for February 7, has been rescheduled for March 14. You may still participate in this event, which supports Delaware Special Olympics. http://www.plungede.org Many Senior Olympians raise money and take the plunge to support the Special Olympics kids. Hey, it will be a lot warmer in March!
