A Message From Rich O’Shaughnessy President of the DSO

Dear Seniors:

2008 promises to be a very exciting year for Delaware Senior Olympics.

At this moment, you are enjoying one of the great recent improvements to our organization.

Our revamped Web Site built by Board Member, Robyn Morgan Kirby just keeps getting better and better. Be sure to visit frequently. You can always find the latest information here. Our many thanks to Robyn!

Plans are well underway for the annual games in the fall and we expect another record turnout. The Athletes are gearing up to give their best performances ever as they vie for spots on the team to represent Delaware in the 2009 National Games in the San Francisco Bay area where we expect to once again be the largest team relative to our small population.

Our newest endeavor, the Senior Group Challenge is beginning to take off in a big way. In this program, through team fitness competition, we offer encouragement and opportunity to more thousands of Delaware Seniors to “get off the couch”. We plan to extend our enrollment activities for this challenge to reach into every senior group in Delaware in the next year. These groups include Senior Centers, Retirement Communities, 55+ Communities, and Church Senior Club, to name but a few.

Walk Delaware enjoys a steady stream of new enrollees and continuing walking activity from its many long-time participants. We are looking at some ways of making enrolling and recording even easier.

Before the year is out, we plan to have set new standards in communications with all who participate or think about participating in DSO programs. Our newsletters needs and will receive a facelift. With more and more of our participants “online”, we will continue to seek ways to use the Internet for better communications and further explore its uses in the Registration processes.

Delaware Senior Olympics relies very heavily on volunteers to fulfill its mission and you can help! We can use more help in many areas such as office work, games support, representing us at Health Fairs, transportation, publications and more.
